When Las Vegas casinos were due reopening, many folks would have been wondering how sanitation will take place. Casino is a place of mass gathering and equipments such as slot machines, pieces of furniture such as sofas, tables, chairs will be used by different people causing exposure to potential virus. Furnitures and machines can be cleaned using disinfectants.
More concerning is gaming chips and poker cards. As chips and cards are touched by many people daily ranging from players to dealers and cashiers, they are definitely high risk items
Covid19 virus can remain on hard surfaces on stainless steel or plastic for 72 hours while on cardboard up to 24 hours.
Fortunately, there are few companies that conduct cleaning service to casinos. One example of such company is Elite Casino Gaming which uses ultrasonic machine to clean the chips.
However, prior to reopening, many casinos in Florida did not give specifics on how they will be cleaning the chips. Meanchile The Palm Beach Kennel Club which offers poker and greyhound racing games is using more traditional method by prohibiting switching of tables and designating boxes for chips to be dropped. Also removed chips will be cleaned immediately, not reused.
Good news is businesses are coming up with creative methods to adjust. One UK compnay named TCSJohnHuxley which manufactures gaming products recently introduced UV-C sanitizer. Featuring Ultraviolet C which is known to be germicidal, it is portable and can clean up to 100 chips in few minutes. The company is to produce trolley type soon, good for 600 chips cleaning capacity. UV-C is not yet confirmed of effectivity against COVID19, however it would be better than nothing.
